Praça da Armada Building

The project is based on a reinterpretation of a small-scale building that nonetheless has a strong urban presence in Praça da Armada, in Alcântara, Lisbon.
Straddling memory and transformation, the project seeks to restore continuity to the built environment by reconfiguring the seven units into six residential units and one commercial space.

The restoration of the facades and stairwell conveys a sense of permanence. At the same time, the structural reinforcement of the building—designed to mitigate and stabilize its gradual subsidence—restores its stability without erasing the marks of time.

With the aim of creating two living spaces on the third floor, the roof was reconfigured while preserving the existing mansard roofs, thereby restoring the Pombaline style. The redesign of the structure allowed for the creation of two new living spaces, where the geometry of the existing building is both respected and reimagined.
